Hi!  I’m Misti, and Practical Happyness is my outlet for all the things that go on in my head.  I’m always being told that I have so much creativity, and that I am good at giving advice (although I really should learn how to take it more often).  For myself, I find that I’m constantly filled with ideas- ideas for DIY projects, ideas for books, ideas for businesses….my brain is just busy busy trying to analyze and evaluate and augment my world (and often others’) for better clarity, efficiency, and…well… happyness.

Why the spelling?  Well, first, I like to be different, and second, I want my blog to revolve around the concept of maintaining the state of being Happy, which means no changing the “y” to an “i.”

Now, here are a few of my favorite things:

One of my first loves!
One of my first loves!

I have had a life long love of horses.  So much so that when I was about 7 I was caught hopping bareback on a racehorse while she was on pasture for the winter!  She cantered down the fence and promptly dumped me in a pile of hay.  I then begged and begged our neighbor (the trainer who was kind enough to take me to the tracks every weekend) to not tell my rather dysfunctional mother (that’s a loooong and different topic of discussion) because she would have never let me go again!  Fortunately she didn’t tell, as long as I promised not to do it again.

As you can see, the obsession never left as I grew up.  As soon as I was old enough I found a way to work (i.e. muck stalls and do other grueling barn labor) just to be around these beautiful animals.  From high school through college I learned to ride by bartering my labor.  I longed to own my own horse and pictured here is my dear old man, Doc Holiday.  I bought him with my graduation money from my grandparents.   He was about 10 years old then, and now he is turning 20!

My one and only!

Then came the next love of my life…the Hubs.   He came in to my life out of left field when we were in college.  He is my best friend, my rock and my reality check!  We’ve been together almost 8 years and married almost 6- and I can’t wait for the next 50 years!  wedding

Shortly after living together, for many, many reasons that I won’t go in to here, we took in my two sisters, and for a few years it was the four of us and our dogs!

Just when things were getting comfortable, we found out we were expecting Little P!

And then 21 months later, along came Little R!!

And now, we are a happy family of 6 with two horses, two dogs, and a rabbit!

Thanks so much for visiting and reading all about me!  Please follow my blog, and let me know so I can follow you back 🙂

Love and Happyness to all!
